Cordy Swope leads IDEO teams in developing new products, environments, services and organisations based on inspiration gained from novel ways of looking at and engaging with people. With a background in human-centered design research, he has practiced design thinking for over 15 years to create strategy, organisational structures and market-facing solutions for diverse brands such as, Andersen Windows, BASF, BMW, Eli Lilly, Danish Design Center, Fujitsu Siemens, GE Capital, Herman Miller, Masterlock, MINI, Moen, Nokia, P&G, Mercedes Benz, Novartis, Renault, O2, Orange, Sunbeam and Timberland.

Prior to IDEO, Cordy co-founded the design strategy group at Continuum, and  was previously a design researcher for Toyota North America. Cordy's work has won IDSA awards for design research, and a Red Dot award for communication design.

He also holds several utility patents, which arose from user research. His work has appeared at the Museum of Modern Art, New York. Cordy developed and taught the first course in design research offered in the graduate program of Industrial Design at Pratt Institute, from which he also holds a Master of Industrial Design.

He has also taught courses and workshops in design thinking in business and design contexts, for institutions such as, the Politechnico Milano, Bocconi University Milano, University of Minnesota and Parsons School of Design New York. He writes about design research and moderates discussions about it on core77.com. He additionally serves on the advisory board and as acting Chair of the Front End of Innovation Europe Conference.
